The leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has taken steps towards recognizing excellence within the pharmaceutical sector with the inauguration of a committee tasked with organizing the maiden edition of the Ghana Pharma Excellence Awards. This prestigious award scheme, nicknamed PharmExcell Awards, aims to celebrate the achievements of not only pharmacists, but also other key players within the broader pharmaceutical sector, who are contributing to the advancement of pharmacy practice in diverse ways.

This inclusive award scheme will acknowledge the contributions of various stakeholders, including regulators, manufacturers, marketers, researchers, importers, wholesalers, pharmaceutical support staff, policy developers, advocates and more.

Terms of reference

The PharmExcel Awards Committee was inaugurated at a short ceremony at the conference hall of the PSGH Secretariat. The newly formed committee has a comprehensive mandate as outlined in their terms of reference. This includes proposing the rules and procedures that govern the award process, establishing various categories to recognize excellence across different areas of the pharmaceutical sector, planning a celebratory award ceremony by September this year, and strategically co-opting additional individuals or institutions with relevant expertise to bolster the planning and organization of the awards. The Committee will engage all relevant stakeholders including but not limited to the Pharmacy Council, the FDA, the Ghana National Chamber of Pharmacy, the PMAG, PIWA etc

Inaugural Meeting

Following the inauguration, the committee held its inaugural meeting, where members began deliberations on the roadmap for the awards. The membership of the committee are;
