The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has undertaken a working visit to Atlantic Lifesciences Limited at Larkpleku in the Greater Accra Region, as part of its sustained advocacy for strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing and reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported medicines.
The visit, held on 2 November 2026, formed part of the Society’s strategic engagements with pharmaceutical manufacturers to gain firsthand insight into their operations, production capabilities, technological advancements and operational challenges. It also provided an opportunity to explore how PSGH could strengthen its advocacy at the policy, regulatory and institutional levels to support the growth and competitiveness of Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry. The engagement aligns with the government’s industrialisation agenda and broader efforts to enhance national medicine security, strengthen pharmaceutical supply chains and position Ghana as a competitive pharmaceutical manufacturing hub in West Africa.
Exploring advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities
Atlantic Lifesciences Limited operates a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility equipped with advanced technologies for producing sterile pharmaceutical products, including intravenous infusions, injectable medicines and other specialised formulations. Its manufacturing infrastructure incorporates modern production systems, controlled environments and pharmaceutical quality assurance processes designed to support the production of safe and quality-assured medicines.
Atlantic Lifesciences is part of the wider Pharmanova Group, which brings together complementary pharmaceutical businesses, including Pharmanova Limited in Ghana, Pharmanova Côte d’Ivoire and SeraVac Limited, a vaccine manufacturing initiative in Accra.
SeraVac Limited represents a strategic investment in Ghana’s emerging vaccine manufacturing industry, with advanced fill-and-finish capabilities for vaccine production. The facility is intended to support regional vaccine security, reduce dependence on imported vaccines and contribute to Ghana’s ambition of becoming a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub. Its development also reflects the Group’s commitment to expanding beyond conventional pharmaceutical products into vaccines and other biological medicines.
Together, these investments demonstrate the growing capacity of Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry to embrace advanced manufacturing technologies, promote innovation and contribute to Africa’s pharmaceutical self-reliance.
The Atlantic Lifesciences delegation included its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dhananjay Tripathi; Chief Operating Officer, Mr. David Klutse; Mr. Atul Tripathi; and other senior management personnel representing manufacturing, quality assurance and administration.
The PSGH delegation included President Dr. Paul Owusu Donkor; Executive Secretary Rev. Dr. (Pharm.) Dennis Sena Awitty; Executive Member Dr. (Pharm.) Lucia Addae; CPPA Chairperson Dr. (Pharm.)
