President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana has called on the Honorable minister responsible for health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu to accelerate the approval process for pharmacist vaccinators to be part of vaccination drives across the country.
The president made this call in his opening address at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana held in Tamale. The president made this request to the Honourable Minister for Health through the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari, who represented the Minister at the AGM.
In the said address, President Samuel Donkoh stressed that “Community pharmacists and community pharmacies, due to their strategic locations and wide coverage across the country can play a vital role in the implementation of public health interventions. Our community pharmacies can easily serve as vital points for vaccination campaigns and other such mass public health campaigns, as these pharmacies are already known in and trusted by our communities”
Further, he pronounced that “the PSGH will continue to engage the Ministry of Health(MOH) and the Ghana Health Service(GHS), to explore ways in which we can work together to harness the potential of the pharmaceutical workforce for public health interventions.”
