The leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) paid a courtesy call on Hon. Pharm. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the only pharmacist in the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. Hon. Dr. Asamoah, who represents the Offinso North Constituency, emerged as the only pharmacist who was victorious in the recent parliamentary elections.
The PSGH delegation was led by its President, Pharm. Dr. Samuel Kow Donkoh, and included the Executive Secretary, Pharm. Dr. Dennis Sena Awitty, the Deputy Executive Secretary, Pharm. Dr. Harry Amoaning Okyere, and Pharm. Daniel Marfo of Rx Health Info-Systems. The visit was intended to congratulate Hon. Dr. Asamoah on his electoral success and to reinforce the Society’s unwavering support for pharmacists assuming influential roles in national development.
During the visit, the President of PSGH highlighted the Society’s vision of increasing pharmacist representation in Ghana’s Parliament, noting that it was the aspiration of the PSGH to have at least two pharmacists serving in the legislative arm of government. To achieve this goal, the PSGH extended financial and logistical support to all pharmacist candidates during the recent elections. While Hon. Dr. Asamoah was the only successful candidate, his victory represents a victory for the pharmacy profession and its potential influence in shaping national policies.
Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah expressed deep appreciation for the PSGH leadership’s visit and the support extended to him during his campaign. He reaffirmed his commitment to the pharmacy profession, stating, “Though I am now a Member of Parliament, I remain first and foremost a pharmacist and a proud member of the PSGH. I will continue to support the advancement of the pharmacy profession in every way I can.” His assurance reflects his dedication to leveraging his legislative role to advocate for policies that promote the growth of the pharmacy sector and enhance healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The PSGH remains committed to its vision of greater representation of pharmacists in leadership and governance, advancing the profession for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
