In an inspiring and community-building event, the Central Regional branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH-CR) spent a day with the University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch of the Ghana Pharmacy Students Association (GPSA) as part of the GPSA week celebrations. The event, held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the UCC SMS Auditorium, was spearheaded by the PSGH-CR chairperson, Pharm Dr. Abena Essia-Donkoh.

Event Highlights

The occasion was designed to inspire student pharmacists, create a welcoming and friendly environment, and strengthen the bond between the students and their senior colleagues in the pharmaceutical profession. The event featured a series of engagements and interactive sessions aimed at fostering mentorship and professional development.

Guest Speaker

The highlight of the event was the presence of Pharm Dr. Richmond Adusa-Poku, who served as the guest speaker. In his keynote address, Dr. Adusa-Poku provided insights from the perspective of the PSGH’s Standing Executive Committee (SEC) and outlined their expectations for the GPSA moving forward. He also shared his rich experiences across various areas of pharmacy practice, including his roles as a Medical Representative, in Community Practice, and currently as a Pharmacist in Mental Health. His speech was both enlightening and motivational, offering valuable lessons and guidance to the aspiring pharmacists.

Interactive Sessions

Pharmacists from various sectors within the profession, representing differentpractice areas, were also present to engage with the students. Each representative addressed the students, sharing their experiences and expertise while answering questions and clarifying misconceptions about the profession. This interaction provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse career paths within pharmacy and the realities of each practice area. The event successfully created a platform for networking and mentorship, helping to bridge the gap between student pharmacists and their senior colleagues. The discussions and shared experiences were invaluable in helping students envision their future roles within the profession and understand the various opportunities available to them.

The PSGH-CR chairperson, Pharm. Dr. Abena Esiaba Donkor, in a signed statement, expressed their satisfaction with the event, emphasizing the importance of such interactions in nurturing the next generation of pharmacists. They reiterated their commitment to supporting the professional growth of pharmacy students and fostering a strong, supportive community within the profession.
