The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana’s Central Regional Branch (PSGH-CR) continues its unwavering dedication towards promoting health awareness and wellness among community leaders with a recent health screening event. The initiative, held on Monday, July 1st, 2024, targeted the Chiefs and Sub-Chiefs of the Elmina Traditional Council.
A collaborative effort for a healthy community
This health screening program and health awareness campaign was a collaborative effort between the PSGH-CR, MEGA Lifesciences, and the Elmina Traditional Council. The event’s location at the Omanhene’s place, situated opposite the Elmina police station, ensured convenient access for participating chiefs.
Supporting well-being during festival preparations
The timing of the health screening coincided with preparations for the upcoming Edina Bakatue festival, a major annual celebration for the people of Elmina, scheduled for July 2nd to 6th, 2024. By providing health checks and consultations beforehand, the organizers aimed to support the Chiefs’ well-being and ensure they can fully participate in the festivities.
The health screening program offered a range of services including eye examinations, Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar screenings (FBS/RBS), neuropathy screenings and general consultations for specific medical concerns. A mobile pharmacy was set up at the venue, dispensing essential medications to the participating Chiefs. The medications included multivitamins, dewormers, pain relievers, iron supplements, antimalarials, cough syrups, and other common medications.
Qualified personnel delivering expert care
The health screening program was staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including, nurses, prescribers from Elmina Polyclinic and CCTH, members of the PSGH-CR, and Pharm D students from the University of Cape Coast (UCC). This collaborative initiative by the PSGH-CR demonstrates the organization’s commitment to public health and preventive care. By targeting community leaders, the program serves as a powerful model for promoting well-being throughout the Elmina community.
