The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has awarded scholarships to 12 pharmacists to pursue advanced professional training at the Ghana College of Pharmacists (GCPharm) and the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP), reinforcing its commitment to building a highly skilled and specialized pharmacy workforce.
The awards were announced at a short signing ceremony held at the PSGH Secretariat during the Second Meeting of the 10th Governing Board of the PSGH. The scholarships form part of the Society’s ongoing efforts to implement its 10-Year Strategic Plan, with a focus on strengthening education, research, and professional specialization.
The PSGH scholarship programme supports the strategic objective of “building the capacity of pharmacists through education and research to ensure appropriate career development and specialization to impact practice.” The scheme provides full or partial financial support for pharmacists who have secured admission into Membership and Fellowship programmes at GCPharm and WAPCP in PSGH-prioritised specialty areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, PSGH President, Pharm. Paul Owusu Donkor, PhD highlighted the critical role of postgraduate training in equipping pharmacists with the expertise needed to respond to Ghana’s evolving healthcare needs. The President emphasized that beneficiaries are expected to apply their acquired skills to strengthen service delivery, research, regulation, and policy implementation across the health sector.
President Paul also announced that the next cycle of the scholarship programme will be opened early in the first quarter of the year, to receive fresh applications from eligible pharmacists
Through this scholarship initiative, PSGH continues to invest in the future of the pharmacy profession, ensuring a pipeline of well-trained specialists capable of advancing pharmaceutical practice and improving health outcomes in Ghana and the sub-region.
