Lady Pharmacist Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah @75

 The Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana recently joined family and friends to celebrate the 75th birthday and thanksgiving service of Lady Pharm Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah. LAPAG was represented by the National Chairperson, Lady Pharm Prof. Mariam El Boakye-Gyasi and LAPAG Ashanti Regional Coordinators (past and present), Lady Dr. (Pharm) Barbara Shantel Kyei Badu, Lady Dr. (Pharm) Merlene Achiaa Agyekum Nettey, Lady Pharm Sarah Abena Wiredu and Lady Pharm Abena Duah Barnieh (her mentee) and Lady Pharm Mrs Felicia Odame, her bosom friend.

About Lady Pharm Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah (nee Elizabeth Anima Donkor)

 Mrs Appiah, affectionately called Auntie Anima, who hails from Adanse Akrofuom, was born in the 50’s and grew up in Obuasi and South Suntreso. She started school at St John’s Primary and George Padmore Memorial middle school all in Obuasi, and then proceeded to St Louis Secondary School for her O and A levels. She passed her GCE O and A levels and gained admission to the School of Pharmacy in the year 1972.

During her time, there were only 30 students in her class, and about 6 were females. Her classmates included: Irene Osam Tewiah, Eunice Attah, Mrs Esther Amedzro, Edna Kemavor, Emmanuel Effah, Kutin Siaw, Michael Simpson, Joshua M. Addo(CEO- J.M.Addo and Sons) and the late Michael Addo(CEO- KAMA now Mikaddo)

Lady Pharm Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Garnett College, Roehampton, London, MSc in Pharmaceutical Services and Medicines Control from the University of Bradford, West Yorkshire, and short courses as a trainer of trainees (TOT) from the School of Healthcare Studies, University of Leeds.

Her career path started as a National Service person (Teaching Assistant) at the Kumasi Polytechnic (now Kumasi Technical University). She moved into the Hospital Pharmacy practice at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and Manhyia Polyclinic in 1977. She was seconded to the Kumasi Polytechnic (now Kumasi Technical University) and headed the Dispensing Technology program from 1982 to 1998.

Lady Pharm Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah returned to KATH in 1998 and rose through the ranks, retiring as the Director of Pharmacy (DOP) – Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), a position she held for five years. During this period, she served as a member of the KATH Management Board.
Auntie Anima has been a very vibrant and active member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH). She was an Executive Member of PSGH and Treasurer for PSGH Ashanti Region. She is one of the founding members of LAPAG and the First Ashanti Regional Coordinator for LAPAG. Lady Pharm Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah served as a member of the Pharmacy Council Governing Board, Pharmacy Council Education and Training Committee and Examiners Board, respectively.

Auntie Anima is married and blessed with three children, two ladies and a gentleman. Also, she is a guardian to three kids from her late sister. During her leisure hours, she likes to read journals, especially scientific journals and enjoys listening to gospel music. She is a Christian and worships with All Saints Catholic Church, Santasi in Kumasi and is actively involved in all church activities. Lady Pharm Mrs Elizabeth Anima Appiah is currently enjoying retirement by resting and touring the world.
