In fulfillment of its commitment to community service, the Central Regional branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH-CR) made some donations to Ankaful Prisons on Thursday, June 20, 2024. This initiative is in line with the Society’s  dedication to improving healthcare access for all, including the often-overlooked prison population. The donation included a variety of essential medicines and medical items aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of the inmates and staff at Ankaful Prisons. The items donated included some antibiotics, multivitamins, antihelminthics, analgesics, antimalarials, cough preparations, lozenges and glucometers with their test strips.strips

These items were carefully selected to cover a broad range of common health issues faced within the prison, ensuring that both acute and chronic conditions can be managed more effectively.

Reception and Gratitude

The donation was warmly received by the prison officers, including the pharmacist nurse in-charge at the facility’s infirmary, as well as representatives of the inmates. The recipients expressed profound gratitude to the PSGH-CR for their thoughtful and impactful contribution. The gesture was seen as a crucial step in enhancing the healthcare services available to the inmates, who often have limited access to necessary medical supplies.

Establishing Long-Term Relationships

Beyond the donation, the event served as a platform to establish a cordial and ongoing relationship between the PSGH-CR and the officers of Ankaful Prisons. Contact information was exchanged, providing a direct line of communication for the prison officials to reach out to the PSGH-CR executives for future assistance, particularly concerning healthcare needs. This connection aims to ensure sustained support and timely interventions whenever required.

Statement from PSGH-CR Executives

The PSGH-CR chairperson, Pharm. Dr. Esiaba Donkor in a signed statement, emphasized the importance of this donation as part of their broader mission to serve the community. They reiterated their commitment to continuing such initiatives and supporting vulnerable groups within society, including those in correctional facilities.
