Accra, July 2, 2025 — In a rousing keynote address at the launch of the 3rd Community Pharmacy Month Celebration (3CPMC 2025), Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Gyansa-Lutterodt made a powerful appeal to the pharmacy profession: support and mentor the next generation.
Speaking to a packed audience at the British Council Hall in Accra, the former Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health praised the growing contribution of community pharmacists to Ghana’s healthcare system. She noted their evolving role in managing non-communicable diseases, improving access to care, and providing medication therapy management.
“This profession is doing more than ever—yet the question remains: do people know where, when, and how we’re doing more?” she asked, challenging pharmacists to elevate visibility and communicate impact.
Dr. Gyansa-Lutterodt emphasized the need for stronger collaboration with District Health Management Teams (DHMTs), greater integration into the national health system, and full participation in ongoing digital health reforms such as the Pharmacy Council’s e-pharmacy platform.
Crucially, she turned attention to the “Hire Pharmacists Now” campaign led by early-career professionals, commending their boldness despite limited experience in public advocacy.
“These young ones are fighting for the soul of our beautiful profession,” she said. “Let us guide them. Let us lend them our shoulders so they can see the world. Their success is our success.”
She concluded by urging the CPPA to invest in customer experience, capacity building, and research, and called for compliance with regulatory standards and unity among practitioners.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “We Are Doing More – Consult Your Pharmacist!”, reflects the strategic direction of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) and underscores the indispensable role of pharmacists in achieving universal health coverage.
