Accra, April 17, 2025 — The leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has officially announced the suspension of its proposed Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), originally convened to consider a new draft constitution for the Society. The decision, communicated by the Executive Secretary, Rev. Dr. Dennis Sena Awitty, follows extensive regional consultations and feedback from members across the country.

According to the statement, insights from recent engagements revealed a strong desire among pharmacists for deeper and more inclusive consultations to ensure that any constitutional amendments truly reflect the will and aspirations of the general membership.

“The Governing Board is of the firm belief that full compliance with the constitutional processes is necessary and will also ensure that members and regions have ownership of the process and proposals for amendments,” the statement read.

The current PSGH Constitution and By-Laws provide a clear process through which constitutional amendments must be initiated and approved. In accordance with Article 15 of the Constitution and SECTION XVI of the By-Laws, amendment proposals must originate from members and pass-through regional branches before being considered by the Board and presented at an AGM or an EGM for voting.

The Secretariat has encouraged all pharmacists to submit amendment proposals following the laid-down procedures. It also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting members through the necessary steps leading to possible adoption of new provisions at a future AGM or EGM.
