Background and Rationale
In an era where narratives shape perception, the image and influence of the pharmacy profession depend not only on the quality of service pharmacists deliver but also on how effectively those stories are told. The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), recognizing the increasing power of social and mainstream media in shaping public opinion and driving behavioural change, seeks to position pharmacists as credible voices in public health communication.
The PSGH Media Visibility Bootcamp is conceived as part of the Society’s brand visibility and public engagement strategy—to empower pharmacists to leverage digital and traditional media to tell the pharmacy story, amplify the impact of pharmacy-led initiatives, and contribute meaningfully to national health conversations.
Goal
To enhance the visibility and influence of the pharmacy profession through strategic use of media by a trained network of pharmacists who will serve as advocates, content creators, and ambassadors for PSGH and the broader pharmacy sector.
Objectives
- Capacity Building: Train a cohort of about 30 motivated pharmacists to effectively use social and mainstream media for professional visibility, health communication, and public education.
- Amplification: Enable the cohort to amplify PSGH’s programmes, initiatives, and impact stories, serving as influencers and brand ambassadors while also building their personal and professional brands.
- Sustainability: Establish a critical mass of media-savvy pharmacists who can serve as trainers to cascade the skills to other members, ensuring sustained impact and institutional learning.
Approach and Delivery
The Bootcamp will adopt an intensive, hands-on training model, combining practical workshops, real-world media engagement, and mentorship.
Pre-workshop Training (offsite/online):
A 2-day pre-workshop will be held for participants to establish baseline details ahead of the bootcamp.
Onsite Training:
A 2-day in-person bootcamp featuring expert-led sessions on:
- Media relations and public speaking
- Social media strategy and digital storytelling
- Branding and visual communication
- Managing interviews and media appearances
- Ethics and professionalism in public health communication
Mentorship and Networking:
- Participants will engage directly with seasoned media personalities, journalists, and communication strategists who will mentor them on storytelling techniques, audience engagement, and effective advocacy.
- Post-Bootcamp Engagement:
Graduates of the programme will be enlisted as PSGH Media Champions, tasked with supporting the Society’s communication efforts, amplifying key messages, and mentoring peers.
