The Entrance University College of Health Sciences (EUCHS) has held its maiden ‘White Coat’ Ceremony for fifth-year students of their Doctor of Pharmacy programme.

The colorful event occurred on Saturday 15th April 2023 at the Sika Hall inside Atinka Media Village in Accra. The event was under the theme “Tomorrow pharmacists.”

Entrance University College of Health Sciences is the first private University College to offer a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in the West Africa sub-region and it is affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The White Coat ceremony ushered these thirty-eight students into the clinical phase of their professional studies. This is the first group of students who will be entering their clinical and final year of the PharmD programme. The ceremony was graced by distinguished public personalities, faculty members, preceptors, family members and loved ones of the students.

As tradition demands, students were donned their white coats with the help of selected people. The students then recited an oath, which is a traditional commitment to provide pharmaceutical care services of the highest quality.

The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH), Pharm. Dr.  Samuel Kow Donkoh, who was the Keynote Speaker spoke on the topic “ Tomorrow’s Pharmacist” urged the students to adhere to the ethics of the Pharmacy Profession. He further admonished the students to epitomize the doctrine of the “Ten star Pharmacist” wherever they find themselves. The concept defines ten roles of the pharmacist as a caregiver, a decision-maker, a communicator, a manager, a life-long-learner, a teacher, a leader, a researcher, an entrepreneur and an agent of positive change.

President Donkoh also touched on the need for young pharmacists to take advantage of the opportunities presented by technology and Artificial Intelligence and the need for them to prepare themselves for the diverse career pathways that are available to the pharmacist.
