Dear Esteemed Pharmacists,

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, I wish that we individually pause, reflect and celebrate the many successes we have chalked over the past year. Where we were not so successful, let us learn from our mistakes and take steps to address our challenges in the new year. I take this opportunity on behalf of the Governing Board, the Standing Executive Committee, and the National Secretariat of the PSGH to wish all pharmacists a happy and prosperous 2024, a year of many wonder-filled and blissful moments. Together, we have faced challenges and celebrated triumphs, and as we enter 2024, I am confident that our collective dedication and commitment to the pharmacy profession will continue to propel us forward.

Our noble profession places a paramount emphasis on ethics, laws, and the unwavering commitment to the well-being of our patients. As friends of the human race, let us renew our pledge to maintain the highest standards of professionalism. I would like to stress the importance of adhering to ethical practices and abiding by the laws that govern our profession. It is imperative that we uphold the integrity of our roles as healthcare providers. I wish to draw attention to a matter of great significance – the responsible management of our professional responsibilities. I implore each pharmacist to refrain from hanging their licenses as Superintendent Pharmacists without proper locum cover. This practice compromises patient care and tarnishes the reputation of our profession. Let us work together to ensure that every pharmacy always has a qualified pharmacist. Furthermore, it is of utmost importance that we actively engage in the reporting of pharmacies operating without qualified pharmacists. This collective effort will contribute to upholding the standards of our profession and protecting the health and safety of our communities.

Colleagues, in embracing the principle of decentralization of leadership, I urge each pharmacist to actively engage with their regional leadership. Hold them accountable, participate in decision-making processes, and contribute to the collective growth of our profession at the grassroots level. Your involvement is crucial in shaping the future of pharmacy in your region.    I encourage you to report any welfare or professional issues you may encounter to your respective regional executives. They are here to advocate for you and address concerns that affect your professional well-being. Remember, your regional executives are your voice at the forefront, and they are committed to ensuring that your interests are safeguarded.

In the coming year, let us collectively work towards the full implementation of professional fees for services. Recognizing the value of our expertise and services is crucial for the sustainability and growth of our profession. By standing united, we can achieve this milestone and secure a prosperous future for pharmacy in Ghana.

Additionally, I want to emphasize the need for each one of you to prioritize your own health and well-being. As caregivers, we often neglect ourselves. This year, make a commitment to adopt healthier lifestyles, incorporate regular exercise into your routines, prioritize adequate rest, maintain a balanced diet and schedule regular health check-ups. By taking care of ourselves, we can better serve our patients and contribute to the overall strength of our profession.

As we embark on this new year, let us uphold the principles that define us as pharmacists and continue to be beacons of excellence in healthcare. I have full confidence that, together, we will overcome challenges and achieve remarkable successes. It is with great pleasure that I wish you all a happy New Year full of happiness and success in your personal and professional lives.
